What is the Colorado Temporary Emergency Rental Assistance Grant (TRAG) Program?

In November 2023, Governor Jared Polis announced a special legislative session to address skyrocketing home values, increasing property taxes, and increased cost burdens on renters. As a result, the general assembly passed HB 23B-1001: Emergency Rental Assistance Grant Program.

The Temporary Rental Assistance Grant (TRAG) provides $30 million in temporary rental assistance for Coloradans who have fallen behind on their rent, are at or below eighty percent (80%) of the area's median income and meet other qualifying factors, and are at risk of eviction or displacement. Assistance includes rental assistance (arrears and future months), rehousing assistance, housing stability services, case management, court costs, and legal fees.

This program opened for applications in February 2024. There are designated monthly pre-application periods for rental assistance. After this period, applicants are randomly selected to submit a full application.
